Catch an open-air opera recital over a packed lunch at these lush locations

It’s an absolute treat for music lovers.
The Blackwater Valley Opera Festival is returning this year, bringing the sound of beautiful music to four charming towns at lunchtime, completely free of charge in May and June.
Dust off your picnic baskets and get ready for a delightful dose of culture in the open air; from May 28th to June 2nd, you can eat alfresco during performances in Youghal, Lismore, Dungarvan, and Castlemartyr.
The open-air recitals will take place on the following dates:
- LISMORE: Millennium Park – Tuesday 28th May at 12 noon
- DUNGARVAN: Walton Park – Friday 31st May at 12 noon
- YOUGHAL: Green Park – Saturday 1st June at 12 noon
- CASTLEMARTYR: Castlemartyr Resort – Sunday 2nd June at 12 noon
Simply pack a light lunch, bring a friend or two (or three!), and prepare to be serenaded by some seriously talented voices. It’s the perfect way to break up the workday, add a touch of culture to your week, and maybe even discover your new favourite operatic aria.
While tickets are free, booking in advance is essential to secure your spot. Head over to the BVOF website to snag your place and avoid disappointment.
“We have a spectacular lineup of performances that showcase incredible talent from Ireland and abroad,” said Eamonn Carroll, Festival Director of Blackwater Valley Opera Festival.
“While opera and music is at the core, the festival is about creating unique experiences, through world-class performances in a host of stunning historic venues enhanced by beautiful dining and beverage experiences, showcasing the best of local produce.
“We look forward to bringing the South East to life with some outstanding performances over the eight-day festival.”
