Cake fans are LOVING this Cork baker’s adorable ‘honesty box’ bakery

It’s the best surprise to find on a country road.
Locals and day-trippers in the seaside neighbourhood of Castlefreke have been raving about a tasty new addition to the area: The Flour Patch is an ‘honesty box’ shed where you can buy cookies, brownies, cakes, cookie bars and some more traditional items like brown soda bread, scones, tarts and crumbles.
It’s all thanks to local baker Anna O’Leary (23) who stocks the tiny shop with an array of delicious bakes made with free range eggs, local milk and lots more produced on her family’s farm.

Located in Castlefreke between Clonakilty and Rosscarbery and less than five minutes from some of the most gorgeous West Cork beaches, it’s a fun place to stop and stock up on goodies before a day on the sand.
Everything is clearly priced with most hefty goodies €3 (bring change) and it’s monitored by CCTV so you can leave payment in the box after you’ve picked your favourites.
“I’ve been baking with my Mom and Nana as long as I remember.” Anna told us.
“My family farm is in Kilmichael where my family is nearly fully self-sufficient with our own beef, lamb, potatoes, vegetables and honey from our own bees. I also sell honey and some of our produce in the honesty box.”

Anna operated the honesty box from where she lives now on her boyfriend’s farm in Castlefreke.
“My younger brother Barra built me the honesty box out of our childhood playhouse, which makes it extra special for me. The idea came from my love of the farm and baking and wanting to combine the two, but not yet reaching my dream of having my own farm shop cafe. I also already make lots of novelty cakes for private orders.”
Use the postcode P85XH10 to find The Flour Patch – it’s open Saturday and Sundays 10am to 6pm.
