Billboards across Cork have been taken over by beautiful maritime-inspired art

Look out for these on the walk to work.
A new collaboration between local designer Laura Perrem and Notes to Cork will see an outdoor art exhibition installed across Cork city for two weeks, starting today, November 11th.
Billboards at Test Site on Cornmarket Street, Summerhill North, Lower Glanmire Road, and Maylor Street will show visuals from the 12 Sea Signals project by the Crawford Art grad.
12 Sea Signals is a collection of visual notes inspired by the coded language of maritime flags used by ships. Each flag has meaning and when used in sequences can convey more complex messages.
Perrem has selected 12 flag combinations from many hundreds to form the narrative.
“12 Sea Signals began when I found that these flags can be used to create a phrase as human as ‘I will keep close to you in the night,” said Laura.
“I couldn’t shake the image of two ships in the night on a dark sea, keeping close to each other. Somehow, these signal flags had written poetry.”
The 12 Sea Signals project began as an art book but with the support of Al Dalton and Notes to Cork it can now be enjoyed by the people of Cork, who might find new stories in the language of the sea.
