Attention Parents: RTÉ’s home school TV show begins this morning at 11am

It’ll buy you enough time for a coffee at least.
As Ireland enters the first full week of strict measures to reduce the spread of coronavirus, RTÉ2 will be hosting a daily school class for primary school kids, starting this morning.
The ‘Home School Hub’ has been developed with the support of the Department of Education and will run for one hour daily from 11am-12pm Monday to Friday on RTÉ 2, with a “catch-up” segment later in the afternoon, allowing children to share their work with others.
Worksheets and class materials will be available to download on rte.ie/learn.

“With school missing from children’s lives it is incumbent upon us to create programming that will resonate with and engage children, and also help parents to create some structure or form to their day,” said Suzanne Kelly, Head of Children’s Content at RTÉ.
“We might do a call to action for art in the morning, for example. We might ask people to draw a picture for instance, and they can then send us a photo of their picture. We want to remove as many barriers, to make this part of it as simple as possible for children.
“The whole idea is to give kids structured learning, to keep everyone busy and occupied.”
Ideal for children in first class to sixth class, the curriculum-based show will be hosted by teachers Ray Cuddihy, John Sharpson and Clíona Ní Chiosáin.
You can expect lessons in literacy and lots of Gaeilge, but there’s no uniforms required.
