An immersive 3D theatre play will run for three nights at The Granary this month

And now for something totally different.
Theatre fans can catch a unique 3D play live at Cork’s Granary Theatre for three nights only this month.
Presented by the National Sculpture Factory in association with Cork Midsummer Festival, the premiere of Doireann O’Malley’s new work Conversations on a Crosstown Algorithm will take place on Thursday, December 15th, Friday, December 16th and Saturday, December 17th, 2022.
The immersive 3D animation, which adopts the narrative structure of three-act plays, centres around a conversation between two characters, Samantha and Olda Wiser, performed by Mathea Hoffmann and Juan Carlos Cuadrado.

The two, strangers when the play starts, slowly but surely dive into each other’s life stories, traumas, dreams, and nightmares.
“Drawing on psycho-analytical motives derived from collaborative character development workshops, the dialogue soon reveals itself as one part of a larger systemic virus.” the producers told us.
“At a time of overlapping crises, Conversations on a Crosstown Algorithm invites audiences to reconsider the relationship between nature and technology by looking into new forms of queer subjectivity and their entanglements with data economy, artificial intelligence, and identity politics.”
Berlin-based O’Malley, the 2018 winner of the Berlin Art Prize, describes the work as “critiquing platform capitalism, identity politics and the ongoing destruction of the environment”. Their previous work Prototypes I, II & III was featured in the Cork International Film Festival and received a phenomenal response.
You can find tickets to Conversations on a Crosstown Algorithm at the Granary Theatre on Dyke Parade from €10 here or catch the free matinee performance on Saturday, December 17th by booking a seat here.
