Aldi’s newest cheese is aged for 1,000 days – and it’s only €4

Fans of whiffy cheeses assemble.
Aldi has announced the impending arrival of a curious new treat to the cheese aisle.
The brand’s Specially Selected Exquisite 1000 Day Aged Gouda hits the shelves on Wednesday, December 12th.
A “creamy, intensely flavoured cheese with a crumbly texture and caramel colour”, this one is sure to send any cheese connoisseur wild – plus it’s only €3.99.
Created by expert cheese masters, Landana, in Holland, Aldi’s Gouda is one of the ‘oldest’ on the Irish retail market this Christmas. In comparison to other top tier Gouda’s which are typically aged for a period of 20 weeks (or 140 days), Aldi’s 1000 Day Aged Gouda equates to an incredible 142 weeks.
As part of the long and intense ripening process used by Landana, the cheese is kept in a temperature and humidity-controlled space before the flavour, consistency and colour is checked to ensure it is matured to perfection.
As well as tasting delicious smothered in chutney, this one will also make the perfect talking point on Christmas Eve when you can impress your guests with your superior tastes and refined palette.
