A new Cork beachside motel is now open in Owenahincha (and it’s pet-friendly)

It’s a little slice of California by the Cork coast.
After an epic renovation project that saw a derelict hotel revived after four decades in ruins, sisters Aislinn and Nicole O’Shea have opened the doors of The Little Island Resort, a boutique retreat overlooking Owenahincha Beach.
The property has been meticulously restored and reimagined while keeping as much of the original building as possible, including an outdoor pool, with sea view rooms starting at €180 per night.
With no prior experience in hospitality, the Kildare sisters, who have backgrounds in graphic design and business, took a hands-on approach to the reno, grouting, wall-building, and plastering and doing much of the work themselves.

“When we first saw the property, we fell in love immediately and made an offer the next day,” says Aislinn.
“It had been empty for years, and we knew we wanted to breathe life back into it.”
The Little Island Resort marks the revival of an architectural gem on Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way, originally designed and built in the 1960s by renowned German architect Klaus Kirsten.
The motel now boasts the Swim Club Deli alongside contemporary and comfortable pet-friendly accommodations and a choice of activities for staycationers.
Visitors this spring and summer can try their signature NYC style rip ‘n’ dip bagels with cream cheese, made from scratch with different flavours every weekend along with speciality coffee, fresh local produce, and an inventive menu.

On Sundays you’re encouraged to join the Sunday Sea Swims on Owenahincha Beach and then visit Swim Club Deli for Sunday Roast Sandwiches and creamy pints of Guinness.
Determined to elevate the guest experience, the owners have made some key operational changes for the upcoming season, including appointing a project manager to oversee the second phase of renovations. This has allowed them to refine their focus on delivering a seamless experience for visitors.
“We’re so lucky to be where we are – the West Cork landscape is breathtaking and we’re surrounded by turquoise waters, sandy beaches, cliffs and forest.” added Aislinn.
“Our environment is just as much a part of the hotel experience as the rooms themselves and we want people to experience it. That’s why we offer free bikes for guests to explore, picnic lunches and blankets to take with them, and complimentary rain gear so the weather never stops an adventure.”
