A famous East Cork pub has announced it will close on New Year’s Day

It’s the end of an era for the Linehan family.
The owners of Moby Dick’s Bar in Youghal have announced they will pour their last pints at the venue on New Year’s Eve.
The pub was named after the 1956 film Moby Dick, directed by John Huston and starring Gregory Peck, which was partly filmed in Youghal.
“After many wonderful years in business and serving our beloved community, the time has come for us to announce our retirement. We will officially retire on the 1st of January 2026.” Kevin and Bríd Linehan said in a statement shared on social media.

“It has been an incredible journey, and we are deeply grateful for the support, loyalty, and friendships we’ve built over the years.
“From the first pint poured to the last round shared, Moby Dick’s has always been more than just a pub—it’s been a place where memories were made, laughter echoed, and connections were forged.
“We are proud to have been a part of this neighborhood, proud to be an integral part of Youghal’s DNA and history, and we could not have asked for a better group of people to share this journey with.”

The couple paid tribute to Kevin’s parents, Paddy and Maureen Linehan, who helped build Moby Dick’s into the place it is today: “Their hands and hearts are in the foundations of this pub, and their legacy has been carried forward through every moment we’ve spent behind the counter.”
Whlle the Linehan’s are retiring, there are hopes the pub will be taken over by a new owner:
“Though the pub will be closing its doors under our ownership, we are excited to see what the future holds and are confident that the spirit and legacy of Moby Dick’s will live on in the hearts of all who have been part of its story.
“From the bottom of our hearts—thank you for everything.” they added.
