A delightful little Instagram feed is documenting Cork’s loveliest windows

By Katie Mythen-Lynch February 2, 2024February 2, 2024

There’s beauty everywhere if you look for it.

And the photographers behind a rather delightful local Instagram feed have put the focus solely on Cork’s most unique, unusual, and aesthetically pleasing windows.

From handsome sash windows on Georgian homes to colourful painted frames and sills decorated with blooming, carefully tended window boxes, the images on @Corkwindows celebrate the quiet work that goes into maintaining a home or a business and adding something special to a street.

There’s a quirky boat-shaped sill surrounded by ivy in Kinsale, some sweet city arches and a couple of shots from public building you might recognise.

You may even spot your own cat unwittingly immortalised on film.

The page originally was set up by Alexander Antunes Carvalho who moved to Cork for a short period and is currently back home in Spain.

“When I was living in Cork, one of the things that impressed me a lot during my walks was the beauty and colourful windows in many houses. Such fairytale windows! So I decided to shoot them and do a kind of catalogue.” he told us.

“Shortly after that, I started to illustrate windows inspired or copied in my pictures.”

Team member Martha Andrea hopes to get a few more creative friends on board in the coming months to continue this fascinating feed.

We’d love to see these exhibited… somewhere with cool windows would be ideal.
