A cosy Cork pub has started a monthly knitting night

It’s a novel way to unwind.
A Shandon pub has introduced a monthly knitting evening where customers can kick back with a drink and stitch away to their heart’s content.
Maureen’s is a laid-back little pub (“we don’t make cocktails and we don’t serve fancy coffee”) at 14 John Redmond Street, Shandon.
You can enjoy a glass of wine or beer as you stitch if the mood takes you but there’s also a selection of interesting non-alcoholic kefirs and other drinks. All you need to bring is your needles and yarn.
Studies show that knitting is much more than just a fun hobby; focusing on the craft can lower your blood pressure and reduce stress. In fact, some fans find it’s more effective than a yoga class at reducing anxiety.
The group meets on the first Wednesday of every month for a few casual hours of knitting, crochet and chats from 7pm to 9pm. Look out for the orange door.
