Not everyone is au fait with YouTube and Facebook Live.
That’s why one Cork personal trainer has put together a free printable exercise routine for people aged over 65 to follow while they are cocooning.
As part of the efforts to slow the spread of Covid-19, people over 70 have been advised to stay at home at all times and avoid all non-essential face-to-face contact. Vilma Zyvatkauskaite, a personal trainer and nutrition coach with David Sisk Fitness Cork noticed that many of her clients were looking for advice for their older relatives, some of whom did not have access to a laptop or smartphone.
“While it’s understandable that older people must stay in their homes for their own health during this pandemic, cutting down on exercise can have a detrimental effect on their health,” said Vilma, who also hosts a live fitness class every Saturday morning on Facebook Live.

“I have been putting workout videos up on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube but not everyone has access to a laptop or a smartphone so I put together this printable guide too,”
The guide is designed to be followed at home using only a chair and a towel. The exercises are low impact and are not designed to put people under pressure.
“We’re not looking at intense workouts with loud music and rising exercise bikes,” explains Vilma.
“This guide has five exercises that you can do as a circuit. Just a few minutes exercise per day will keep your muscles toned and keep your fitness at a good level.”
The PDF guide can be downloaded here.
