It’s the trendiest drink of 2023.
Now a Cork brand of water kefir is planning a summer of dreamy beach gigs and yoga classes to celebrate its new flavours.
BKultured is the latest launch by serial food entrepreneur Niamh Hegarty.
Produced on her family’s coastal farm in Ballycroneen, East Cork, the drink is made with all-organic ingredients using a 72-hour natural fermentation process and secret ingredients including Niamh’s own kefir culture and water from her family’s well.
Niamh began selling her homemade water kefir at Niamh’s Larder, her popular Ballybrannigan Beach food trailer, last year. As demand grew, she decided to turn her side project into a stand-alone business.
This summer, the brand is hosting a thoughtful schedule of events including music gigs and yoga classes, kicking off on June 24th with BKultured presents: Waves of Sound: A Summer Music Series by the Atlantic Ocean featuring award-winning Northern Irish folk singer-songwriter Joshua Burnside (tickets are live now here).
What is water kefir?
In case you’re unfamiliar, this fizzy elixir not only tantalises taste buds but also nurtures the body from within. Packed with beneficial bacteria and yeasts, water kefir aids digestion, strengthens the immune system, and supports overall gut health.
It’s a healthy way to quench your thirst too; the organic sugar added ‘feeds’ the kefir grains, kicking off fermentation, resulting in a drink that is naturally low in sugar and suitable for both adults and kids. BKultured is allergen free, gluten-free and vegan, and contains no artificial flavours, colours, or preservatives.

Right now you can choose from two BKultured flavours; Jammin Ginger & Turmeric and Sassy Mixed Berry. Niamh also dreams up limited-edition seasonal flavours such as rhubarb, elderflower and rosehip – all locally grown in East Cork using permaculture methods.
BKultured Water Kefir is available to buy from retailers nationwide and online at BKultured.com.
