Ladies and gents… it’s Spruce Springsteen.
A Mahon business is offering living and growing Christmas trees in pots for rent — and they are also encouraging customers to name them.
Whether you like the sound of Spruce Almighty, Holly Jolly Green Giant, Branchy MacBranchface, or plain old Woody, all are sustainable and charming solutions from Christmastree.ie for those looking to reduce their carbon footprint.
This innovative approach replaces the traditional cut spruce with a living, breathing alternative. You can choose to bring the tree — available in various heights up to 8ft — indoors for the festive season or leave it potted outside, giving you the flexibility to customise your holiday experience.

Colm Crowley, the visionary behind this green initiative, shared the overwhelming success they’ve experienced since introducing the concept three years ago.
“We sold out of our big trees in early November the past two years so we have a lot more trees available to rent this year. People have been booking as early as September so it’s going great,” he told Yay Cork.
Colm added that although for every tree that’s cut, two more are replanted, having a rented tree means the tree gets to stay alive, which “not only benefits the environment, but the tree will thank you too as its living and breathing like everything else”.
“Every tree that we rent has a unique number so the customer can continue to rent the same tree every year if they wish,” he added.
Rental is between December 8th and December 12th and returns are on January 2nd. You can return the tree to their shop in Mahon or it can be collected. Prices range from €15 to €120 and the trees are available on their website here.
