It’s a strange time to be a brand new mum or dad.
With Covid-19 restrictions preventing family, friends and neighbours from helping out during those anxious first weeks, new parents are going it alone for the time being.
Now a Cork chef has come up with a thoughtful way to help out. Based in Donoughmore, Orla McAndrew creates curated care packages filled with tasty meals for the new parents to enjoy while they settle into life with their new arrival.
If you can’t be there in person, you can visit the website and choose from a range of wholesome and nutritionally balanced home-cooked meals, then have them delivered to the doorstep.
Options include hearty dishes such as chicken and chorizo casserole, creamy risottos and vegan stews, with filling sides such as sausage rolls and goujons that are ideal for snacking on one-handed while feeding a newborn.

You can also order a ‘Parent’s Survival Kit’ (€50) containing 12 Free Range Chicken Goujons, 12 Pork and Mamabear Ketchup Sausage Rolls, two tubs of Homemade Pesto and two tubs of Veggie Packed Tomato Sauce.
Of course, they’ll be needing dessert to keep their strength up, so Orla’s ready-to-bake fruit scones, chocolate fudge cake and sticky toffee pudding will go down a treat.
It’s a thoughtful gift for new mums and dads, older relatives and anyone who might be recovering after an illness or a hospital stay.
“All meals are made entirely from scratch using 100% chemical-free Irish meats and vegetables,” says Orla.
“They are delivered frozen in fully recyclable and compostable packaging with step-by-step reheating instructions. Every meal, side dish and dessert serves two people.”
