A Cobh supermarket is about to unveil an entire aisle of iconic American snacks

Oh, America.
If you spent your J1 subsisting on Lucky Charms, Froot Loops and Pop Tarts, now you can relive that teenage summer by picking up a box of your favourite naughty US foods during your next shop.
Garvey’s SuperValu in Cobh is about to unveil an entire section devoted to American goodies and it opens on Wednesday, June 24th, 2020.
Curated by Americanfood.ie, swing by the Garvey’s ‘American Selection’ aisle and you can start your day on a sugar kick with Oreo O’s or Reese’s Puffs cereal, Chips Ahoy and Cinnamon Toast Crunch, or try a healthy option with Cream of Wheat, a type of breakfast porridge mix made from wheat semolina, or Grape Nuts, a cereal which contains neither grapes nor nuts.
There are Twinkies, the famous “golden sponge cake with a creamy filling” that have been a key part of the US snack scene for more than 90 years, Welch’s Fruit Snacks, a chewy sweet in a variety of fruit-inspired flavours and Swedish Fish jellies, which are actually from Sweden but super popular in the States.
Nerd alert
Your dentist won’t thank you but you can choose from a variety of Nineties classic Nerds flavours, super sour Mike & Ikes candy and cinnamon-flavoured Hot Tamales, as enjoyed by Madonna in the 1991 documentary Madonna: Truth or Dare.
Chocolate lovers can stock up on peanut butter Reese’s, Butterfingers and Hershey’s, with retro favourites Junior Mints, 3 Musketeers, caramel Payday and BabyRuth bars available too.
Marshmallow Fluff and Jell-O will delight your kids and you’ll also find savoury classics like Pepperidge Farm Cheddar Goldfish Crackers and Old Bay seasoning on the shelves too.
We’re not saying you should do your entire shop from these shelves but hey, a little nostalgia never hurt anyone, right?
