A Ballymaloe-trained chef just launched a tasty cookie for breastfeeding mums

It’s hungry work, feeding a baby.
And if you’re breastfeeding, finding a snack that’s as tasty as it is nutritious and beneficial to your milk supply can be tricky.
Now a Ballymaloe chef is taking orders for a delicious new solution; Alice Tevlin has made her convenient plant-based and gluten-free Chocolate Oatmeal ‘Lactation’ Cookies available to the masses.
Tevlin, who recently became a first-time mother to a bouncing baby boy named Kitt – came up with the recipe using ingredients that contain key ‘galactagogues’; substances that aid the initiation and maintenance of milk supply at a level that meets the needs of the baby.
Rua’s Chocolate Oatmeal ‘Lactation’ Cookies contain a magical mixture of Irish oats, linseed (golden flaxseed), and Brewer’s Yeast from the Wicklow Hops Company.
“During the blurry early, often very challenging, days of breastfeeding, I relied on these cookies to help nourish me, feed the ravenous sweet tooth that comes with having a baby, and increase my milk supply.” Tevlin, who owns Rua Food, told us.
“I kept a big batch in the freezer and snacked on cookies during the day and long nights.”
Oh, and you don’t have to hide them from the rest of the household:
“These cookies are delicious and nutritious and suitable for everyone – my partner, Paul, eats a lot of them too,” Alice added.
“There is a lot of scaremongering that comes with parenthood and I am hoping these cookies bring joy, convenience, and great taste, rather than fear or judgement around how your child is fed.”
A box of five cookies starts at €13, delivered to your door, here.
