By Yay Cork August 11, 2026August 9, 2026

Hands up if you’re in your gardening era.

If your idea of a perfect weekend involves fresh soil, wholesome community vibes, and learning how to grow your own food, we have some phenomenal news.

Cork on a Fork Festival is hosting a bumper lineup of plant-focused, eco-friendly events this Friday through Sunday, and loads of them are completely free to attend.

From hands-on herb garden tours and wildflower seed-bomb workshops to live farm-to-fork cookouts and international community seed swaps, you can dive deep into the city’s green scene without spending a single cent.

Grab a tote bag, channel your inner botanist, and check out the best free, plant-powered events here…

Friday, August 14th

Herb Garden Workshop

  • Time: 2pm–4pm

  • Location: Douglas Community Park (Meeting outside Douglas Community Centre)

  • The Vibe: Kick off the weekend by learning how to elevate your home cooking. Botanist Jo Goodyear is leading a free guided tour through Douglas’s community herb garden, showing you exactly how to harvest, prepare, and use fresh herbs like a pro.

Saturday, August 15th

No booking required.

Market Gardens of Cork: Heritage & Biodiversity Launch

  • Time: 12pm–1pm

  • Location: Cork City Library, Grand Parade

  • The Vibe: For the history and visual culture lovers, Cork City Library is launching a new exhibition celebrating the growers and market gardens that shaped the city’s iconic food scene over generations. It’s an easy, interesting walk-through to kick off your Saturday in town.

Make Your Own Seed Bombs

  • Time: 12:30pm

  • Location: Children’s Food Tipi, Bishop Lucey Park

  • The Vibe: Get your hands dirty and make your own wildflower seed bombs to take home. Facilitated by community gardener Niamh Cawley, this quick hands-on workshop shows you how easy it is to bring a bit of guerrilla gardening and colour to local green spaces.

Farm-to-Fork Cook-Up & Garden Tour

  • Time: 2pm–4pm

  • Location: Murphy’s Farm Community Garden (Behind Bishopstown Tennis Club)

  • The Vibe: Freshly picked veg cooked live on-site by a top local chef? Say no more. Chef JJ from MTU is serving up fresh stir-fries and veggie burgers made straight from the garden plot. You can hang out, eat, and take a guided tour of the flower and veg displays completely free of charge.

Sunday, August 16th

Heritage Seed Swap
