Youghal’s bank holiday Medieval Festival is adding a Sensory Orchard this year

Forget the history books – this weekend, Youghal’s medieval story steps off the page and takes over the town.
The Youghal Medieval Festival returns to the historic Raleigh Quarter this Sunday, August 2nd, for a day of battle scenes, ancient crafts, folklore, feasting and family fun, transforming St. Mary’s College Gardens into a living, breathing medieval world where the past meets the present.
From knights and falconry to traditional skills and hands-on discoveries, visitors can immerse themselves in a festival packed with atmosphere, adventure and plenty of surprises – all set against one of East Cork’s most remarkable historic backdrops.

Set within the historic surroundings of St. Mary’s College Gardens, visitors can enjoy medieval encampments and battle displays by the White Horse Living History Society, falconry demonstrations, traditional craft displays, archaeological workshops and the popular ‘Big Dig’ experience from the School of Irish Archaeology.
A wide range of family activities, including face painting, balloon art, a petting farm and artisan food and craft stalls, will take place throughout the day.
New for 2026, visitors can discover the Sensory Orchard, a hidden gem tucked away within the apple orchard at St. Mary’s College Gardens. Designed as a peaceful pause point within the festival, this calming space invites visitors to slow down and experience the medieval landscape in a whole new way.
A thoughtful addition to the festival, the Sensory Orchard ensures that everyone can experience the magic of Youghal’s medieval past in a way that feels welcoming and inclusive.
Organised by Living Youghal and supported by Cork County Council and the Heritage Council through the Irish Walled Towns Network, the festival takes place on Sunday, August 2nd, from 11am to 5pm in St. Mary’s College Gardens, Youghal’s historic Raleigh Quarter.
The best bit? Admission is free.
