Not a fan of bonfires? Here’s where to celebrate Non-Fire Night in Cork this week

By Yay Cork June 22, 2026June 18, 2026

For some people, Bonna Night means nostalgia, community spirit and summer traditions.

For others, it means desperately trying to keep the stench of smoke out of the house and grim piles of singed rubbish in the grass where children play.

Thankfully, Cork City folk have another option.

A series of family-friendly Non-Fire Night celebrations will take place across the city this Tuesday, June 23rd, offering all the fun of a community gathering without the towering bonfires, smoky air or scorched green spaces.

This year’s programme is bigger than ever, with seven locations taking part — including Ballincollig, which joins the initiative for the first time.

Instead of bonfires, attendees can expect an evening packed with music, games, face painting, arts and crafts, children’s rides and plenty of community spirit.

While St John’s Eve has historically been marked by bonfires tied to summer solstice traditions, Cork’s Non-Fire Night events have grown in popularity as a safer, more environmentally friendly alternative.

Here’s where the events are taking place:

Colmcille Park, Mayfield, 16.30 – 19.00.
Comeragh Green Space, The Glen, 16.00 – 18.00.
Kilmore Rd Park, Knocknaheeny, 16.30 – 19.00.
Pophams Park, Farranree, 16.00 – 19.00.
Clashduv Park, Togher, 17.30 – 19.30.
Loughmahon Park, Mahon, 17.00 – 19.00.
Innishmore Park, Ballincollig, 17.00 – 19.00.

The celebrations are organised by local communities in partnership with Cork City Council and aim to bring neighbours, families and friends together for an evening of fun that everyone can enjoy.
