Discover the history of Cork’s South Parish on a free Guided Walking Tour

New to Cork or just looking for a good excuse to explore the city?
A guided walking tour of the historic South Parish might be the perfect midweek plan.
Hosted by Cork City Council, the two-hour tour takes place on Wednesday, April 22 from 10am to 12pm and offers a relaxed wander through one of the city’s most characterful neighbourhoods.
The South Parish is one of the oldest parts of Cork, packed with stories that many locals pass by every day without realising. The area stretches across the southern side of the city centre and has long been a hub of working-class life, maritime trade and community spirit. Over the centuries it has seen everything from bustling dockside activity to waves of new residents who have helped shape the city’s culture.
On the tour, participants will stroll through streets that have witnessed centuries of Cork history, learning about the people, landmarks and traditions that make the South Parish unique. Expect insights into local heritage, hidden corners of the neighbourhood and the stories behind buildings many of us walk past daily.
For younger Corkonians — especially those who’ve recently moved to the city for work or college — it’s also a great way to get your bearings and meet other curious locals while soaking up some of the city’s past.
The event starts at Cork City Hall and runs for approximately two hours.
So if you’ve ever wandered through the area and wondered about the history behind it, this is your chance to slow down, look up, and see a familiar part of Cork in a whole new way. Reserve a spot here.
