This DIY Skills Class is for women who want to repair a shelf, wire a plug or tile a wall

A dripping tap. A loose shelf.
There is a particular kind of freedom that comes from realising you don’t need to wait for someone else to fix things.
On Saturday, May 30th, 2026, Cork women are being invited to claim that freedom — drill in hand — at the Ladies DIY Skills Class in the Clayton Hotel Cork City.
Running from 10am to 4:30pm, this full-day beginners’ workshop is designed for total novices, curious dabblers and anyone who has ever watched a YouTube tutorial, sighed deeply, and decided it was “a job for another day”. No experience is required — just a willingness to show up and have a go.
Over the course of one hands-on, confidence-building day, participants will learn how to:
Build and hang a shelf that is actually level
Rewire a plug safely
Tile a splashback or bathroom wall
Fix a leaking tap and bleed radiators
Shut off the water in an emergency
This isn’t a lecture or a demo — it’s fully practical. You’ll do every skill yourself, with all tools, materials and safety gear provided. There will also be tea, coffee and treats, because feminism, like DIY, runs best when properly fuelled.
The class has quietly become a cult favourite — popular with everyone from young renters who want their deposit back intact, to homeowners fed up of outsourcing basic jobs, to women who simply want to feel more capable in their own space. Previous sessions have seen 20-year-olds and 70-year-olds learning side by side.
With only 35 places available, the class is expected to sell out quickly — as it has every time before. Attendees are encouraged to bring their mam, sister, daughter or best friend, but plenty come solo and leave with new skills and new connections.
Tickets are €129 (about the cost of an electrician’s call-out) over here.
