Storm Amy: Worst of the rain expected in West Cork as Status Yellow alert kicks in

A Status Yellow rainfall warning is in place.
Cork County Council is urging motorists to drive with care over the coming days as heavy rain and strong winds are forecast before the first storm of the season, Storm Amy, lands on Friday.
A Met Éireann Status Yellow rainfall warning will be in place from 6.00am to 8.00pm today, Thursday, October 2nd with widespread, heavy rain leading to localised flooding and difficult travelling conditions. The worst of the rain is expected in West Cork.
Cork County Council is asking road users to exercise caution as driving conditions may be hazardous, with surface water flooding possible. Motorists are advised to avoid driving through flowing or standing water and to exercise caution during heavy rain and are asked to be conscious of cyclists and pedestrians.
The rain warning will be followed by a Status Yellow wind warning on Friday, which comes into force from midday. Strong to near gale force winds and gusty south-westerly winds are forecast until midnight on Friday. The potential impacts include difficult travelling conditions, debris, loose objects displaced and some fallen trees possible.
Latest HARMONIE high resolution charts bring center of #StormAmy closer to Ireland on Friday with stronger gusts into West and Northwest. If these charts stay consistent you could see upgrades in warnings for some areas so stay tuned. pic.twitter.com/9SLC6Ay2BH
