Cork’s Deaf Rebels are planning a casual get-together in a city park

Keen to use and improve your Irish Sign Language (ISL)?
Cork’s Deaf Rebels are hosting a Day Time Social in Fitzgerald’s Park on Sunday, September 7th, kicking off at 2pm.
The group, which was started as a way to keep the language alive and growing beyond the classroom, is hosting a new series of social events, bringing together Cork’s Deaf and hearing communities in a shared space where ISL takes centre stage.
These aren’t classes, they’re fun, relaxed gatherings where people can practise, connect, and simply enjoy communicating through sign.
“We often get messages asking for events, not on a weekday, we hear you!” the group announced on social media.
“To wrap up the summer, we’re having a relaxed picnic in the park (weather permitting). Bring a blanket, your lunch, snacks, and enjoy a chilled afternoon together.

“This is a social ISL space for the Deaf community and hearing signers to connect through ISL. It is not a class and not a space for spoken communication. If you don’t know ISL, please support us by not attending until you have attended classes. We aim to keep this a safe, inclusive environment for Deaf people to relax and be themselves.”
If you’re unsure of your ISL skill level you can contact the group to arrange a short video call to check in.
