Bell ringing is suspended at Shandon’s 200-year-old bell tower

The Shandon Bells have been silenced.
St. Annes Church, Shandon Tower and Bells have announced that the iconic bells will be out of action for the coming days.
Known for marking the hours over Cork city with its iconic peal, the 18th-century landmark is pausing its bell ringing for essential maintenance as part of a €400,000 restoration project.
While the silence may feel unusual to locals and visitors alike, officials assure the public that the beloved bells will be back in action before the week is out.
In the meantime, bell ringing is suspended today, Wednesday, July 23rd, tomorrow, Thursday, July 24th and on Friday, July 25th.

If you’re only in town for a day or two, don’t fret; you can still pop up for a look at the church interior and balcony and the entry fee has been reduced for the duration of the works.
