1500 astrophysicists are en route to Cork for their biggest Irish conference EVER

The stargazers are coming.
The European Astronomical Society has chosen Cork as the location for its annual conference, bringing 1500 professional astrophysicists from around Europe and the rest of the world to the Rebel county.
The European Astronomical Society Annual General Meeting is set to take place from June 23rd to 27th, 2025 in University College Cork, injecting up to €2.8 million into the local economy with 1,200-1,400 hotel rooms booked across the city.
EAS, which promotes and advances the science of astronomy in Europe, has over 5,000 members, making it the biggest professional astronomers’ organisation in Europe.
In good news for Earthlings, several public astronomy events are planned throughout the week, including one where you can chat to the experts over a pint.

You can mingle with astronomers from all over the world at Astronomy on Tap at the Franciscan Well Brewery & Brewpub on the North Mall on Wednesday, June 25th (7pm).
Speakers on the night include:
- Prof. Emily Rice (Astronomy on Tap HQ) – “A Brief History of Astronomy on Tap”
- Prof. Johanna Vos (University College Dublin) – “Weather on Worlds Beyond our Own”
- Prof. Milena Ratajczak (University of Warsaw Astronomical Observatory) – “How to Land on a Comet”
“We also plan on having a bunch of astronomers who are visiting for the conference around for people to mingle with.” UCC’s Michael Tremmel told Yay Cork.
“We’re creating a little bingo game to play for people to “find an astronomer” to fill their bingo card and win some pretty great prizes.”
Tickets are free and you can nab one here before they disappear.
