Volunteers are organising a massive clean-up on Oliver Plunkett Street

By Yay Cork June 20, 2025June 16, 2025

It’s easy to moan about parts of our city on social media.

But if you’re more of a ‘lend a hand and let’s get it done’ kind of person, there’s an opportunity to help clean up one of Cork’s busiest streets next week.

Following the success of its first ‘Cleaning and Greening’ morning on North Main Street, the Cork Business Association (CBA) is rolling up its sleeves once again — this time targeting Oliver Plunkett Street.

On Tuesday, June 24th, CBA members, local businesses, and volunteers will come together to refresh and revitalise the popular city centre street. The event will stretch from Vodafone to The Welcome Inn, with a variety of tasks planned including cleaning, planting, and painting.

Want to take part?

Volunteers will meet at The Old Oak Bar at 9am, where light bites will be served before the work begins. The morning’s efforts will be rewarded with lunch at 12:30pm, kindly provided by Market Lane.

The event is part of a broader CBA campaign to improve one street at a time in Cork City.

McKechnie Cleaning Services will return as a key supporter, bringing power washers, window washers, and industrial sweepers to help deliver professional results. Volunteers will also be equipped with gloves, brushes, litter pickers, and paint supplied by the CBA.

“This is about more than just a tidy-up — it’s about business owners and locals taking pride in our shared spaces,” said Dave O’Brien, President of Cork Business Association.

“Our first event showed what a difference one morning of focused action can make. We’re looking forward to building on that momentum on Oliver Plunkett Street.”

Businesses and individuals are being encouraged to volunteer and you can register here to take part.
