The cosy Glengarriff Hostel is about to reopen with stays from just €45

Bargain staycations are hard to come by these days.
But a popular West Cork business, is about to change that for visitors in search of an affordable break.
Glengarriff Hostel, in the beautiful village of Glengarriff is getting a new lease of life this spring as it reopens under the management of local couple Deirdre and Finbarr O’Sullivan.

Deirdre had worked at the property, originally named Murphy’s Village Hostel, for several years and jumped at the chance to take the helm when the opportunity arose. She fondly remembers her time at the business – it was her first job as a teenager under the guidance of then owners Susan and Tony Murphy.
“I approached the Murphy family to ask if they would consider leasing the business to us and we were thrilled when they agreed.” she told us.
“The timing was right for us as a family to really give this business a go and the fond memories I have, make it all the more special.”

Deirdre and her husband Finbarr, who are both from Glengarriff, are looking forward to re-opening the hostel, with their four children also drafted in to share the workload.
“For me, this isn’t just a business—it’s about taking care of a place that holds so many memories for me and for others.” she added.
Set to open its doors in April 2025, the family-run business will offer a warm and welcoming base for visitors exploring the breathtaking beauty of the Beara Peninsula, with rooms in a mixed of female-only dorm from €45 per night and family rooms from €110 per night.
