This secluded Cork beach cabin is the ultimate little escape for recharging

By Katie Mythen-Lynch January 8, 2025March 5, 2025

If you’re dreaming of a little getaway, this could be the moment.

Even if the sun’s not exactly doing its thing, a little outdoorsy activity can leave you feeling like a new person—and barefoot walks along the beach are always a good idea, no matter the weather.

Now, if you’re in the mood for a peaceful staycation with I-want-my-house-to-look-like-this decor and ocean views, Ballyshane Cabin, an East Cork gem, is calling your name.

Tucked away in a flower meadow, you’ll hardly even know it’s there.

Just 25 minutes outside the city, this spot feels way more remote, offering sweeping sea views across the headland towards the Atlantic—it’s the kind of place where you can breathe deeply, exhale the chaos of city life, and soak in the serenity.

Inside? Total bliss. A chic living room complete with a wood-burning stove (because nothing says ‘cosy’ like a crackling fire), a comfy bedroom with a massive picture window, perfect for afternoon naps, a rain shower to wash away the day’s stress, and Bluetooth speakers for setting the mood.

Oh, and a cute kitchen for assembling a giant charcuterie board to enjoy over wine and a game of Scrabble later. Heaven.

Kenneth, the Airbnb ‘Superhost’ behind this place, has racked up hundreds of five-star reviews with his Ballyshane Stays properties (there’s a studio and a Barn available too). He knows how to make you feel at home. Guests are welcome to explore the herb and vegetable garden and enjoy fresh eggs from the chicken run. Not bad, right?

The real magic happens down a little walking path leading to a secluded cove on the beach. So yes, bring your togs, because nothing clears the head quite like a dip in the sea (even if it’s a quick one and you almost get frostbite).

If you’re feeling adventurous, there’s plenty to check out nearby—from the iconic Ballymaloe House to the Jameson Distillery. But if it’s pure peace and quiet you’re after, this little hideaway is exactly what you need.

Book the Coastal Studio from around €180 per night here.
