The fifth annual Rare Cookery Books Workshop will be held in Urru Culinary Store, Bandon on September 8th at 4pm… and it’s shaping up to be a treat indeed.

Guest speaker will be UCC Food Historian Regina Sexton and the workshop will be guided by food blogger and broadcaster, Elke O Mahony.

The focus of the discussion this year is on the ‘Books of Ballymaloe’; the writings of the late Myrtle Allen and consideration of Mrs. Allen’s food writing peers like Biddy White Lennon, Carla Blake and local West Cork publications by women writers in the second half of the 20th century.

Urru’s Ruth Healy describes the workshop as “a really convivial afternoon of book talk and food stories.”

“The love of cookery books is a real leveller and it never ceases to amaze the abundance of stories people have collected in and about their books.” she adds.

“Cookery books are so much more than a collection of recipes; they are societal and personal diaries”.
