Met Éireann predicts big drop in temperatures ‘with cold nights on the way’

It couldn’t last forever.
But it looks like Cork’s glorious Indian summer is coming to an end, as Met Éireann confirms that chillier conditions are headed our way.
The national forecaster predicts a marked drop in temperatures with cold nights on the way later in the week and we could even see some frost by Friday.
It will be largely dry today with any mist and fog clearing during the morning and just a few showers in places. While there will be a few bright or sunny spells, it will be generally cloudy with highest temperatures of 16 to 18 degrees.
“On Tuesday night, outbreaks of rain may affect southernmost parts of the country and there’s likely to be a few scattered showers in the north too.” said a forecaster.

“Some uncertainty in the detail of the forecast mid-week but there’s likely to be some rain or showers at times on Wednesday and Thursday, possibly heavy, and it will gradually turn colder. Chilly moderate to fresh north to northeast winds will set in on Thursday too.
“Thursday night will become dry with clear spells, apart from some showers continuing on Atlantic coasts. As the wind moderates, lowest temperatures will fall to between 4 and 7 degrees.”
Dig out your winter coat for the weekend
We can expect a chilly start to Friday too with sunshine and scattered showers following for the day: “Cool with highs of 9 to 13 degrees, with moderate northwest winds. Cold after dark, with a touch of grass frost possible overnight, as temperatures fall to the low single figures.
“Current indications suggest Saturday will be a bright cold day with sunny spells and a few scattered showers, and the chance of wet and windy weather for Sunday next.”
