Why buy lampshades when this workshop will show you how to make your own?

Decorating a house is a costly business.
But you know that fancy lampshade you have your beady eye set on? Yeah, well, guess what? You could have made that bad boy yourself.
No, seriously. An upcoming hands-on workshop is inviting beginners to ditch the overpriced lighting stores and unleash their inner crafty goddess or god.
Because let’s be real, a lampshade is basically just cardboard with a bit of fancy fabric glued on. We can do better than that. We can create something unique, something that reflects our glorious personalities, and something that won’t break the bank.
Originally from France, upholsterer Laure Mouniami has over 12 years of experience and studied at the La Bonne Graine school on Boulevard Voltaire in Paris, working alongside recognised upholstery industry masters, before bringing her trade to Clonakilty, West Cork in 2018.
Laure runs regular Lampshade Making workshops in her Elle Aime studio in Clon (€115 including all materials and a lovely café lunch) but this month she’s also joining forces with The Colour Box at Marina Market to run two city workshops.
There’s a Wednesday evening class (7pm to 10pm on Wednesday, July 24th) and a Saturday morning class (10.30am to 1.30pm on Saturday, July 27th).

“This class is perfect for beginners who want to learn the craft of contemporary lampshade making,” says Laure.
“I have selected some amazing fabrics for you folks. Don’t miss out – only a few dates are available this summer.”
So, grab a cuppa and a glue gun; take that, overpriced interior design world. Everyone goes home with their own shade for a table lamp or a floor lamp.
