Diners can try sisig and ube ice cream at this new Filipino Japanese restaurant

If you’ve never tried Filipino food, you’re in for a treat.
A new Filipino and Japanese restaurant just opened its doors in Ballincollig, inviting diners to choose from a menu featuring treats from both cuisines.
Chenny Dimaandal and Ryan Lumor, the folks behind Sensei Coffee & Sushi Cafe on Dyke Parade in Cork City Centre, have opened a new venture called Mayumi in the Castle West Shopping Center on Ballincollig’s Main Street.

The success of their original venture, renowned for its authentic, handcrafed menu, has inspired the owners to broaden their horizons. As Filipinos who moved to Ireland with big dreams, they’re excited to share a piece of their heritage while continuing to serve up the Japanese dishes that Cork has grown to love.
Filipino cuisine, known for its eclectic mix of sweet, sour, and salty flavours, will be a fresh offering in Ballincollig.
What’s on the menu?
Diners can look forward to experiencing traditional dishes such as Crispy Pata, a Filipino dish consisting of deep-fried pig trotters or knuckles served with a soy-vinegar dip, Sisig, minced pork made from pork belly and chicken liver, usually seasoned with spices, onions, and chilli pepper and served with an egg (pictured above).
Sushi lovers can indulge in a Mixed Sushi Platter featuring four sliced maki, two sliced salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, salmon, tuna and octopus, squid and prawn nigiri, Miso Soup, Ramen and Yaki Soba.

For dessert, there’s the famous bright purple ube ice cream, made using purple yam from the Philippines, which has a delicious earthy flavour and a velvety texture.
Mayumi is open Tuesday – Sunday, 12:30pm to 9pm for eat-in and takeaway.
