This free family-friendly workshop will show you why garden soil is so important

Most of us rarely give it a thought.
But an upcoming outdoor workshop will teach Cork gardeners of all ages about the importance of soil, and how it impacts our gardens, our food, and the environment.
The Secrets Beneath Our Feet: Discovering Soil Health is a family-friendly event that will be hosted by St. Luke’s Community Garden for the Cork Lifelong Learning Festival on Sunday, April 14th.
The free hands-on workshop will run from 10:30am to 11:30am on the day and kids aged over 10 years-old are welcome to go along with an adult.

Led by experts like Hannah Binner, a UCC urban soil PhD student, John Kingston of Regenerative Natural Habitat and Maria Young from Cork Green Spaces for Health and Cork’s Food Policy Council, the session will cover everything from soil’s role in environmental health, as well as its impact on human health and food health to practical regenerative farming practices.
“Learn to nurture your garden, your community and the environment by understanding and applying the knowledge shared in this hands-on session.” say the organisers.
