Rescued from ruin, this 200-year-old Cork farmhouse is now an immaculate Airbnb

We love to see old Cork houses restored.
And if you’re looking for inspiration for your own little restoration project, you’ll find it down in West Cork, where a 200-year-old farmhouse has been lovingly transformed into a stunning staycation rental just in time for summer.
With space for up to eight guests, Maggie’s Wood in Barryroe features a host of comforts to make your stay extra special, including underfloor heating, Starlink wifi and an outdoor spa area with a hot tub and plunge bucket shower.

The property was carefully brought back to life by Tom Crowley, who purchased the abandoned ruin during Covid and worked on it between lockdowns to restore it to its former glory.
Here’s a peek at the ‘before’:

The property, named in honour of its previous owner, who planted the lovely woods in front of the house, now features a modern, fully-equipped kitchen and a cosy living area with a wood-burning stove, perfect for get-togethers.
Four individually styled bedrooms blend contemporary luxury with antique charm.
Guests even enjoy a ‘settling in’ pack featuring locally sourced fresh produce, complimentary firewood for the stove, and a selection of books and games for entertainment – all you need to bring is your dinner, drinks and your suitcase.

The property also offers practical conveniences such as a utility room with laundry facilities and an outside cold shower for post-beach rinses.
Nestled in the countryside near attractions such as Clonakilty, Kinsale, and the world-famous Old Head Golf Course, there are six stunning beaches just a stone’s throw away (including Dunworley and Inchydoney), making it a fine spot for a summer staycation.
There’s a beach within walking distance and a shop about a minute’s drive from the door.
“We want our guests to feel truly at home during their stay at Maggie’s Wood,” Tom told us.

“Whether they’re seeking relaxation, adventure, or culinary delights, West Cork offers something for everyone, and we’re here to ensure our guests make the most of their time in this beautiful region.”
You can book Maggie’s Wood at €300 per night (three nights minimum) now via Airbnb. Find them on Instagram here.
