Some of Cork’s best cafés are hosting a bake sale to help one family escape Gaza

It’s a small way to contribute.
Some of Cork’s best-loved bakeries and cafés are teaming up to host a bake sale later this month as part of a drive to raise enough money to rescue one family from the horror of Gaza.
Proceeds from the bake sale at Diva Boutique Bakery in Ballinspittle on March 21st (3.30pm) will go to a GoFundMe campaign organised by writer Molly Crabapple and photographer Ed Godsell in aid of Mohammed Rajab and his family, whose lives are at risk from the Israeli invasion of Gaza.
The fundraisers are racing to raise $70,000 to pay for Mohammed, his wife, his four sons, his parents, his sisters, and their children to be allowed into Egypt. Mohammed’s father-in-law recently died because the Israeli blockade kept out the medicine he needed.
“When I reported from Gaza in 2015, I worked with an extraordinary translator and producer named Mohammed Rajab. Brave, funny, and utterly devoted to journalism, Mohammed has helped so many foreign reporters tell the stories of Gaza.” explained Molly.
“He also works tirelessly as a translator for international medical organisations.

“They are displaced in Rafah, in harrowing conditions, under inhuman bombardment, with disease and starvation around them. An invasion is imminent.
“They need to be evacuated to Egypt immediately to save their lives.”
Joining Diva on Thursday, March 21st, 3.30pm will be The Fishbasket Longstrand, Clonakilty’s Pike Deli, Kinsale’s Seeds Bakery, Rebecca’s Kitchen, and The Pie Guys.
If you can’t make the bake sale in Ballinspittle, you can donate to the cause here.
