A top Dutch travel blog has revealed its stellar Kinsale picks

By Maria Wilson October 21, 2023October 21, 2023

Kinsale is winning everyone over.

The seaside village is pretty famous with frequent visitors and fans the world over… and now the Dutch are jumping on board too.

The intrepid travellers of WeAreTravellers.nl, with their 300,000 monthly readers, recently zeroed in on our little harbour paradise. Here’s the lowdown on what they reckon you should not miss if you want to embark on your own Kinsale escapade.

Take a “Scilly ” stroll

The famed Scilly Walk from Kinsale to Charles Fort got a hearty nod of approval. Fuel up along the way with a pitstop at The Bulman or dive into some legendary fish and chips from Shirley’s Food truck at Charles Fort.

Dive into Kinsale’s hippest hideout

The very first stop for our Dutch mates was the uber-cool OHK. According to these adventurers, no Kinsale trip is complete without a velvety chai latte from this trendy café. Snag one from its cute-as-a-button hatch if on the go, or sip it on the cute terrace.

Have a whale of a time

Kinsale isn’t just for landlubbers! The Dutch explorers couldn’t get enough of the four-hour boat tour that promises encounters with humpback whales, dolphins, and even killer whales (depending on the season).

The ultimate Kinsale deep dive

For a dive into Kinsale’s history and hidden treasures, follow the lead of We Are Travellers and join Don and Barry on their walking tour. These lads know the town like the back of their hands, with a treasure trove of stories and secrets.

Eye-popping colour and empowering stairs

The kaleidoscope of colours of Kinsale’s enchanting houses warranted a mention. There was also a nod to the famous steps with the empowering motto, “Well-behaved women seldom make history” in honour of legendary female pirate, Anne Bonny, who called Kinsale home.

Hit The Collector to refuel

The Collector is the place to be if you’re on Team Coffee, according to the blog. Their coffee and tea menu dances to the seasons and features a Guatemalan roast that’s hard to beat.

Cheers in crooked style

The Greyhound — there’s a lost-in-translation moment with the blog, which calls it The Grey Haunt — is one of Ireland’s oldest watering holes, and it gets the nod for being charmingly crooked (literally).

Our Dutch pals recommended sipping on a Beamish or Murphys there and soaking in the unique atmosphere. For bookworms with a penchant for vino, Prims Bookshop was also mentioned for offering live music, great wine, and a treasure trove of intriguing books.

Fine dining aplenty

When you’re ready to elevate your dining experience, look no further than the divine Saint Francis Provisions. It was praised for serving up tantalising tapas and delectable vegetarian options. And for seafood enthusiasts, Max Restaurant was hailed as an absolute must-visit.

Tick, tick, tick — our Dutch friends seem to have got it just right.
