All aboard the Love Boat: Cork drag queens are hosting a party on the high seas

By Yay Cork July 13, 2022July 12, 2022

Feeling a little nauti?

The annual trip to Trabolgan is on pause this year, but Cork’s It Takes A Village Festival is taking to the high seas for a series of boat parties over the coming months instead.

As part of It Takes A Harbour Cruise, a number of brilliant live shows will take place aboard the Cailín Oir boat between July and September with performances from Yenkee, John Spillane, Shane Johnson (Fish Go Deep), Donal Dineen, and the Sunday Times.

Each adults-only trip takes 2.5 hours and leaves from Custom House Quay.

First up is the Gay Future Love Boat Special: On Friday, July 22nd at 6.30pm, DJ’s Eddie Kay and Cian Austin Jesus will join drag queens Kitty Cartier, Krystal Queer, and burlesque dancer Ms. Lavelle for a fancy dress party filled with amusements such as Disco Bingo.

Shipmates will also enjoy performer The Irish Sea, “guaranteed” dolphin sightings and a best-dressed competition, as well as the special guest house band, Flock of Seagulls.

Legendary Cork DJ Shane Johnson of Fish Go Deep will host the second boat party on Saturday, August 13th, while the following weekend on Saturday, August 20th, Cork songwriter, storyteller and dreamer John Spillane will perform a special concert aboard the Cailin Oir as attendees take in the breathtaking views around Cork Harbour.

At the beginning of September, two of Cork’s emerging songwriters Yenkee and Caoilian Sherlock will both perform on Saturday 3rd at 5.30pm followed by a DJ set together. The following day, the celebrated Sunday Times DJs will host their very own boat party playing music from all kinds of genres fit to fill the dancefloor of any roving boat.

The series concludes on Saturday, September 10th with the final harbour cruise hosted by the illustrious DJ and radio presenter Donal Dineen.

Tickets are a very reasonable €25 here.
