6 local shops where you’ll find the best chocolate eggs and treats this Easter

By Yay Cork April 11, 2022April 10, 2022

Easter weekend is fast approaching.

And if you’re hoping for an extra special treat from the Easter Bunny this year, the good news is that Cork’s artisan chocolatiers have been busy.

Some of the city’s most talented makers and specialist foodies have prepared and curated a selection of eggs and goodies that would give Willy Wonka a sugar craving.

Whether it’s a beautiful shiny Easter egg wrapped in oodles of cellophane or a tray or delectable truffles for enjoying with wine, we really are spoiled for choice.

Here are six spots to shop:

1. The Chocolate Shop

Where: The English Market, Cork City

The Chocolate Shop has a wide range of Easter-themed treats, including its hero chocolate-filled shell, which can be filled with a selection of milk and dark handmade caramels, toffees, truffles, pralines and more – all chosen by you.

They also have a beautiful Belgian milk chocolate duck with orange beak, as well as rich milk chocolate hedgehogs and bears from Michel Cluizel Chocolatier, in addition to a selection of chocolate Easter eggs filled with either 12 or 20 beautiful milk chocolates that are handmade by Chocolatier Benoit Lorge in Kenmare, Co. Kerry.

Visit chocolate.ie to order online for click and collect or home delivery nationwide.

2. Koko Kinsale

Where: Pier Road, Kinsale

Francis Keane, Koko’s founder and head chocolatier, has been hand-crafting unique, artisan chocolates in the heart of Kinsale since 2012. Easter is their time to shine and no two eggs are the same.

This year, the selection includes a mouthwatering Orange Zest 70% Dark Chocolate Easter Egg, milk chocolate and dark chocolate bunnies and a selection of stunning hand-painted Easter eggs that are guaranteed to impress someone special.

While you’re shopping, pick up a mocha and a Koko Creme Egg for yourself too.

3. DANERO

Where: Mahon and Douglas Farmer’s Markets

Danero has been making lush craft bars and fresh truffles since 2012, each one crafted in premium single-origin chocolate and the best of local ingredients for unique flavour.

You can fill your basket at Mahon Farmers Market on Thursdays, Douglas Farmers Market on Saturdays, and on NeighbourFood.ie online market.

4. COCOA

Where: Winthrop Arcade, Oliver Plunkett Street, Cork City

Nestled in the heart of Oliver Plunkett Street in the Winthrop Arcade, COCOA is a boutique chocolate café specialising in truffles, cakes, pastries, and macaroons, all handmade by renowned chef and owner, Brendan Cashman.

Pop in and pick up a hot chocolate and a selection to gift to your dinner host (or to scoff on the sofa yourself).

5. Bradley’s

Where: North Main Street, Cork City

If it’s Cork-made O’Conaill Easter Eggs you’re after, head for Bradley’s on North Main Street. They also stock chocolate treats and eggs from Dublin’s Chez Emily, Skelligs and Lorge.

Any Easter Sunday dinner host would be thrilled with a bottle from their wine and whiskey selection too.

6. The Roughty Foodie

Where: The English Market, Cork City

For true foodies, The Roughty Foodie boasts a wide range of treats and delicacies, all of which are Irish-produced. From Cork-owned Ó’Conaill chocolate to Kerry’s Benoit Lorge Chocolatier and Skelligs chocolates, there are lots to choose from, but if you can’t choose, you could always plump for a custom hamper with all of your favourites.

Just in time for Easter, the Roughty Foodie is also selling beautiful Margarita double-flowering tulips from West Cork – chemical-free and a stunning centerpiece for Easter Sunday dinner.

Visit theroughtyfoodie.com to order hampers online or visit the English Market stall.
