A Twitter page is shaming motorists by highlighting all the illegal parking in Cork

We’ve all seen it.
Delivery vans blocking cycle lanes; cars stopped on double yellow lines; trucks parked on narrow footpaths.
For the able-bodied amongst us, this might only be a small inconvenience. But for wheelchair users, anyone with mobility issues or parents pushing a buggy, blocked footpaths are a daily frustration and a huge hindrance.
Now a dedicated Twitter page with over 3,000 followers is documenting all the bad and illegal parking around Cork city. And they have plenty of material to work with.

From the mildly entertaining to the downright outrageous, Bad Parking Cork posts daily shots of cars left abandoned in the most inconvenient of spaces.
Followers have sent in photos of vans heading down the pedestrianised path at the Marina, cars maneuvering through bollards in Passage West, and, our personal favourite, three cars parked abreast on Cornmarket Street, managing to block what can only be described as one of the widest footpaths in town.

New parking fines were introduced by Cork City Council on February 1st of this year, which effectively doubled the previous €40 fine for illegal parking.
We’ll have to wait and see if they will have an impact on this sort of carry-on, but perhaps the possibility of being Twitter-shamed might be a more effective deterrent.
