Indiependence is coming home.

After two years on hiatus – during which time the festival’s 15-year-long association with Mitchelstown was announced to be over – Cork music festival Indiependence is set for its return next year.

The news was confirmed yesterday in a short teaser video posted on the festival’s social media challenge, bearing the slightly cryptic slogan “We’re coming home in 2022.”

In the ensuing excitement, organisers have now confirmed that the festival will indeed be returning to Mitchelstown, and that it will take place over the August Bank Holiday weekend (although, next year, the weekend of the August Bank Holiday is actually 29th-31st of July, as the Monday falls on August 1st).

Plans are in place for the festival to resume its original location at Deer Farm in Mitchelstown, which has changed hands over the course of the pandemic. Organiser Shane Dunne has revealed that he has had positive meetings with the new ownership, and the next year’s festival should proceed according to plan.

No acts have been announced for Indie 22 as of yet — the most recent, cancelled line-up for the 2020 festival featured acts like The Streets, Sigrid, Stereophonics, Feeder and Kneecap. Mr. Dunne has said he’s hoping for two major international acts, as well as a few who are fresher on the scene.

However, Dunne has confirmed that most of the roster will be made up of homegrown talent.
