Cork star Phil Healy to race in three events at the Tokyo Olympics

All of Cork will be cheering for Phil Healy.
Cork sprinter Phil Healy has confirmed that she has been chosen to compete for Ireland in three different events at the upcoming Tokyo Olympics. The 25-year-old from Ballineen will be going for gold in the 200 Metre, the 400 Metre and the Mixed 4X400 Relay.
It’s an historic achievement, as Healy becomes the first ever Irish woman to compete in three events at the same Olympics.
Healy shared the news on her Twitter account last night, and was evidently overjoyed to be attending her first ever Olympic Games.
“It was always a dream to qualify and compete in one event at the Olympic Games but I am just beyond thrilled to officially announce I’ve been selected in the 200m, 400m and Mixed 4x400m relay.
I’M GOING TO THE OLYMPICS!!! 😭🥳

“So many people have played a massive part in making this dream become a reality but none more so than [coach] Shane McCormach. The sacrifice, planning and travel, in addition to so much more certainly wasn’t easy in our quest to try and qualify in two individual events but… YOU MADE IT HAPPEN!”
Healy is on good form, having most recently finished fourth at the European Indoor Championships in Poland, just shy of nabbing a medal.
Her events will take place during the second week of the Olympics, between July 30th and August 8th.
