This cheery new parklet is now open on Sullivan’s Quay, with another planned for Ballincollig

There’s nothing like a pop-up park to brighten up a street.
And now there’s a brand new parklet planted up and ready to enjoy outside the Quay Co-Op on Sullivan’s Quay.

Visitors can swing by for a veggie takeaway and kick back on the custom seating structure, hand-built by the talented folks at Benchspace, designed by Siobhan Keogh and planted by a team from Munster Technological University.
And, it’s finished! a big thank you to everyone who made the #parklet happen! @BenchspaceCork #corkcitycouncil designer @SiobhanKeogh and the wonderful team at @myMTU. C’mon down! #community pic.twitter.com/Mq15yiZsYD

Previous city parklets on Douglas Street, in Douglas Village and outside The Imperial Hotel on the South Mall have proven a roaring success, converting a few parking spaces into an inviting public green space for residents and passers-by to sit, relax, and interact.
Another new parklet is almost finished in Ballincollig, where locals will be able to enjoy it on the village Main Street.

“Parklets attract people to different areas so they can relax and have a chat and maybe bring along a cup of tea or coffee,” said Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr Joe Kavanagh.
The structures will initially be in place for one year, after which they will be evaluated to consider whether they should be kept in place for another year, replaced with more permanent seating, or moved to a new location.
