‘It might save a life’ – Cork City Hall is opening a two-day blood donation clinic

Every blood donation can save up to three lives.
Despite the Covid-19 restrictions, the Irish Blood Transfusion Service still needs to collect their usual supply of 3,000 blood donations every week.
Now Cork City Council staff and blood donors around Cork City are being asked to give lifesaving blood this week in Cork City Hall, with a clinic opening on Monday, November 9th and Tuesday, November 10th, 2020.
“We need to remember that clinics are open throughout the country to help people donate blood in a safe environment,” said Lord Mayor of Cork Cllr Joe Kavanagh.
“I would like to encourage anyone who is in the position to donate blood to do so – it might save a life,”
Blood donation clinics have been adapted to ensure the donors’ safety and are exempt from all levels of Government restrictions during Covid-19 so donors are allowed to travel safely to their nearest clinic.
Our hospitals continue to require their normal supply of blood/platelets while Level 5 #COVID19 restrictions are in place.
It is vital donors continue to attend clinics, by appointment.

“Clinics are appointment based, which allow for social distancing and we’ve added further precautions to ensure the donors’ wellbeing.” said IBTS Donor Services Manager, Maureen Gill-Emerson.
There is no substitute for blood. Each blood donation can save up to three lives and every donor that comes into a clinic is allowing hospital patients more time with their loved ones.”
Are you free for a pint? The clinic at Cork City Hall will run on Monday and Tuesday from 4pm-8pm. Appointments can be made by calling 021 480 7491 and clinic details and more information on donating blood can be found at giveblood.ie.
