Bumblebee Flower Farm’s Open Day sounds like a dreamy adventure outdoors

It all sounds blooming lovely.
If you appreciate a lush bouquet of Irish-grown flowers and you’d like to learn how to grow them yourself, there’s a day out in West Cork with your name on it.
Mags Riordan, a professionally trained florist, grows all of her own flowers at Bumblebee Flower Farm in Castledonavan, Drimoleague, lovingly cultivating a huge range of unusual but sustainable seasonal flowers, including some rare and even a few heirloom varieties, especially for weddings and events.

On August 16th from 12pm until 5pm, you can roam the idyllic West Cork hideaway yourself when Bumblebee Flower Farm hosts an Open Day for the public.
The team will be on hand to show visitors how their gorgeous Irish blooms are grown, with workshops and tutorials on how you can make your garden a haven for pollinators.
“Our little farm started out as a wildlife refuge some sixteen years ago. It has grown, evolved and become an incredible living breathing ecosystem full to the rafters with flora and fauna,” says Mags.

“We will take you on a journey through the farm explaining why we grow the way we do, and our top pollinator plants/planting schemes.”
There’s plenty to capture the imaginations of foodie folk too; as Ireland’s first dedicated Edible Flower Farm there will be tastings to accompany the different areas and produce along the way.
Chef Eddie Attwell, head chef at the Glengarriff Eccles, and Gaelic Escargot will be hosting talks and tastings on the day, aiming to send everybody home inspired to hit the kitchen themselves.

Tickets for the Open Day are €25 per person here. Visitors will take home complimentary pollinator-friendly seeds too so there’s no excuse not to get started at home.
If you can’t make the open day you can shop the Bumblebee Flower Farm range of ‘always grown, never flown’ flowers and bouquets from €40 on their website.
