Dalgona whipped coffee is trending. Here’s how to make one in 3 easy steps

It’s the internet’s lockdown beverage of choice.
With most Cork’s cafés closed as part of Covid-19 measures, caffeine addicts have been getting their fix online and one TikTok recipe has everyone whipped into frothy, caffeinated bliss.
Dalgona coffee is named after a South Korean honeycomb toffee. A simple but magical little recipe, the effect is kind of like a frosty coffee icecream or a strong, butterscotch iced latte.
Most importantly, it’s cheap, easy and you can probably make one using what’s already in your fridge and pantry.
Here’s what you need:
(Makes 2)
2tbs powdered instant coffee
2tbs granulated sugar
2tbs hot water
400mls milk (and kind, we used oat milk)
Method:
- Mix the sugar, coffee and water in a mixing bowl until it thickens to a foam (use a fork or a whisk)
- Pour the milk into two glasses and add some ice
- Spoon the coffee and sugar foam on top and stir gently.
Note: The recipe will not work with brewed coffee or sugar substitute but you can use any type of milk.
