Roads treacherous as Met Éireann issues updated snow/ice warning

By Yay Cork February 12, 2020February 12, 2020

Take extra care out there today.

Cork roads were described as ‘lethal’ in many areas this morning as overnight frost and ice caused treacherous driving conditions across the county.

Met Éireann has issued an updated Status Yellow snow/ice warning for the entire country, in place until 10am on Wednesday, with ‘scattered wintry showers’ expected tonight and early Wednesday with some snowfall accumulations, especially in the west and north.

“Some disruption to travel is possible, particularly over higher routes.” said the national forecaster.

Collisions and accidents were reported on the Banduff Road, Forrest Road, Carrigaline, Clogheen and Crossbarry early this morning.

According to Met Éireann, there will be rain in all areas early tonight, with lowest temperatures of 3 to 5 degrees.

Tomorrow’s scattered rain showers will clear by midday leaving a mostly dry and rather cloudy day with some bright spells and highest temperatures of 8 to 10 degrees but there’s a chilly weekend in store, with the mercury set to plunge below freezing again on Thursday night.
