An adorable pop-up park has been installed on Douglas Street

“Come on down, bring your lunch, sit, enjoy!”
That’s the message from the team behind a unique pop-up park installed this week on Douglas Street.
Designed by architect Siobhan Keogh, the People’s Parklet is the result of a collaboration by the woodworkers of Benchspace, the Transport and Mobility Forum, Douglas Street Business Association, Mad About Cork and The Cork Flower Studio.

The project, which is mobile and moved around by bicycle, was funded by a grant from the Cork City Council.
According to the team, the parklet offers an alternative experience of the city and the street: “It is an open and public space, that invites residents and passers-by to interact socially, and to foster a sense of place, community and environment.” they say.
Exciting day here on #DouglasStreet as @BenchspaceCork get Ireland’s first #parklet underway! A fab #urbanpark for all to enjoy! The People’s Parklet is here until #autumnfest on Sep 29th. So come on down, bring your lunch, sit, enjoy! #mycorkcity #bughotel #biodiversity pic.twitter.com/1auZtDJiU6

“This parklet is moveable and can be relocated to different areas in the city centre. It is hoped that it will enhance whatever public space it is placed in, bringing a pop of natural materials, green planting and vibrant artwork to what might otherwise be a concrete, overlooked or neglected space.”
You can pop down for a coffee and enjoy the space until September 29th, 2019.
