7 frightfully fun Halloween hotel breaks to book during mid-term break

By Katie Mythen-Lynch October 4, 2025October 2, 2025

Midterm break is creeping up already.

Happily, Halloween isn’t just about sugar highs and sticky costumes anymore; it’s the perfect excuse to pack up the family and make some memories that don’t involve scraping chocolate off the sofa.

From spooky movie nights and pumpkin trails to spa time for parents who deserve a treat too, these hotels are serving up Halloween breaks that mix just the right amount of tricks and treats.

Hotel Killarney – Magic, Mischief & Memories

Hotel Killarney is going all out this Halloween with family-friendly fun at every turn.

Kids can dive into the Friendly Fellows Club with carnival games, discos, charades, and even an Animal Roadshow, while parents unwind with a pumpkin spice latte or cocktail at the Sloe Berry Bar. Add in a pirate ship playground, mini golf, supervised playroom, and spacious family suites from €244, and you’ve got a midterm break filled with mischief and memories.

The Heritage, Co. Laois – Frights & Delights

For a luxurious Halloween escape, The Heritage in Killenard is serving up spa serenity and spooky fun. Guests enjoy a one-hour journey through the award-winning Thermal Suite before settling in for scary movie night at the hotel’s private cinema.

A signature cocktail and a treat box in your room seal the deal, with packages from €109pps. Think less trick-or-treat, more spa-and-chill with a spooky twist.

Castleknock Hotel – The Spooktacular Family Escape

Just outside Dublin city, Castleknock Hotel’s two-night Halloween break blends family adventures with grown-up relaxation.

The package includes a family pass to Dublin Zoo or AquaZone (with upgrades available to Emerald Park), dinner at 22 Bar & Restaurant, nightly kids’ cinema with milk and cookies, and access to the spa, gym, and playground. From €600 for two adults and two children, it’s a Halloween city break with something for everyone.

Fota Island Resort – A Halloween Holiday to Remember

Set in 780 acres of Cork countryside, Fota Island Resort has endless options for family adventures—golf, spa, fairy trails, Fota Adventure, and visits to Fota Wildlife Park or nearby Cobh.

This Halloween, the Amber Lounge is serving a spooky-themed afternoon tea overlooking golden autumn trees. Stays start from €354 for a family of four, with self-catering lodges also available.

The Kingsley – Halloween in the City

Cork’s riverside Kingsley Hotel is offering a cosy midterm escape with a ghoulishly good afternoon tea packed with themed sweet treats. After exploring Cork city and its Halloween happenings, retreat to luxurious family rooms for a restful night.

Packages start at €418 for two adults and two children, including breakfast and Halloween afternoon tea.

Carton House, Co. Kildare – Fairmont Family Halloween Experience

Carton House combines luxury with seasonal fun across its 1,100-acre estate. Families can enjoy walking trails, cycling, a pumpkin trail, and a full programme of kids’ activities including a magic show, movie room, and cookie decorating.

The two-night package (from €790 for a family of four) also includes breakfast, an evening meal for adults, and access to wellness facilities.

Aghadoe Heights Hotel & Spa: Stay in Luxury, Witness the Wild

Every autumn, Killarney becomes the setting for one of Europe’s most breathtaking wildlife displays — the annual breeding season for wild deer which takes place in October. It is one of the highlights of the wildlife calendar as stags roar out to their competitors and battle like gladiators for the right to breed with females.

For those who want to experience this extraordinary event in comfort and style, Aghadoe Heights Hotel and Spa offers the perfect base. Perched high above the lakes of Killarney, with sweeping views across the 26,000-acre UNESCO Killarney National Park, this five-star retreat allows guests to combine luxury with a front-row seat to one of nature’s most dramatic performances.

Ireland’s only remaining wild herd of native red deer roam freely within the park, making Killarney one of the best places in Europe to experience this amazing natural spectacle.

A two night October break with breakfast daily, dinner on one evening in the lake Room Restaurant for two people sharing is €853 with family rates (2a&2c) available for €1183.
