6 spots to get your morning coffee now that the 5km travel ban is finally over

We’ve never been so desperate to go for a spin.
Whether you’ve been trapped in the city craving a big gulp of salty sea air or you’re a country dweller who’s only had fields and the odd cow for company since December, we’ll all be relishing a little bit of freedom this week.
The 5km travel restriction has finally been lifted and we are all free to skip off on a jaunt wherever we like (provided it’s within the county bounds, of course).
The thing is, no matter how good your local coffee spot is, everything gets old eventually.
Here are six spots to hit for a caffeine fix as you venture outside your neighbourhood.
1. Fota
If you’re looking for a spot to enjoy an al fresco coffee while your kids run wild, make a beeline for Bakestone at Fota House. The magnificent Victorian Working Gardens are open Monday to Friday from 10:30am to 2:45pm for the coming weeks.
The Bakestone crew are serving from the hatch seven days a week from 10am to 5pm daily – the perfect accompaniment to a ramble around the gorgeous grounds.

2. Cobh
If it’s a stroll around Cobh you’re looking forward to this week, swing by The Wholey Ground for a caffeine boost first.
With Golden Bean coffee and a tantalising choice of freshly baked cakes and goodies to choose from every morning, a little picnic from this café is the ideal treat before all that calorie-burning exercise.
The Wholey Ground is open seven days a week from 8am until 3.30pm.

3. Garretstown
How about brunch by the beach to celebrate the end of lockdown?
At Bean and Berry, a brand new mobile café with a healthy twist, you can reward an early morning swim, surf session or a stroll on the sand with a nutritious açaí bowl and a hot coffee, fresh juice or smoothie.
Bean and Berry is open at Garretstown beach from 10am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday.

4. Glanmire
Situated by the bridge at the foot of Rocky Road, Glanmire, The River Café has been fuelling walks for locals throughout the lockdown from their gorgeous cherry red vintage truck.
Expect hot chocolates, coffees, snacks and treats from Tuesday to Sunday.
There’s a doggy bowl for thirsty canine customers too.

5. Inishannon
Even the milk in your latte is local at The Quirkey Kitchen.
The brainchild of UCC Economics graduate and foodie Francophile Siobhan Quirke, this adorable vintage Citreon HY truck is parked up at Barrett’s Bar on Innishannon’s Main Street.
As well as creamy mochas with Gloun Cross Milk and mouthwatering cakes and ‘scruffins’, they also do a refreshing iced espresso tonic.
Open Wednesday to Sunday, 11am until 6pm.

6. Douglas Street
Opened in December, Cafe Moly is a new dog-friendly micro-roastery and café on 99 Douglas Street. They do a variety of coffees to go with retail beans and coffee equipment available to buy too.
They’re closed on Mondays but you can drop in for an iced Einspänner (a mocha with whipped cream) from Tuesday (8am) on.
