5 fun things to do in Cork over the long weekend

The weekend wind-down is on.
While the weather might be chillier than strictly necessary at this time of year, the hour has gone forward and spring has officially sprung.
That means it’s time to get out of the house and work off that Easter egg feast – especially if you’ve got a gaggle of sugar-crazed kiddos in tow.
Here are five fun events happening in Cork over the bank holiday weekend…
1. WEAVE A SPRING NEST IN GLENGARRIFF
Fancy getting crafty over the Easter holidays? You can weave and decorate a beautiful spring nest using natural materials like willow, birch, mosses, lichens and feathers in Glengarriff all weekend. Hosted by Two Green Shoots, there are three sessions available (kids tickets €10, accompanying adults €5, includes all materials). Booking is essential on 089 708 1099.
2. MEET THE MAD HATTER AT MAHON POINT
Need an excuse for a wander around Mahon Point? The Mad Hatter will be in the house to entertain the kids from 1pm to 4pm on Saturday, March 31st. Expect face painting, arts and crafts and plenty of fun all afternoon.
3. HUNT FOR EASTER EGGS AT OLD CORK WATERWORKS
Pop over to the Old Cork Waterworks Experience for an Easter egg hunt, face painting, crafts, balloon making, falconry and magic shows from 10am on Friday.
All completed easter egg quiz cards will receive a prize and proceeds from the event will be distributed to local primary schools in the Bishopstown area. Tickets €5 per child, adults free.
4. HEAD OUT FOR A JAZZ BREAKFAST AT MALLOW CASTLE
Easter Festival at Mallow Castle is a family affair and there’s heaps of cool stuff happening. The Marquee will play host to a delectable breakfast of chocolate-dipped strawberries, Nutella smothered crepes, donuts and fresh juices on both Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday, accompanied by some easy listening music.
Jazz trio Jazoo will perform live in the Marquee on Saturday and Sunday morning at 11am. Tickets are €15 (including entry and breakfast, email info@countrylifestyle.ie for more information).
5. EVERYTHING’S EGG-STRA SPECIAL AT VIENNA WOODS
Easter is synonymous with chocolate eggs, but one Cork hotel is ‘laying’ on an appetising savoury twist on the tradition this weekend.
Vienna Woods Country House Hotel has decided to celebrate the humble egg all over their menu; think egg soaked French toast at breakfast, egg-topped nicoise salad at lunch, juicy burgers stacked with bacon and egg at dinner and decadent egg desserts like pavlova and bread and butter pudding with custard for dessert.
